Future Plans

Additional Facilities at the Sports Grounds at Failand.

Our Governors are keen to provide artificial surfaces at Failand and have commissioned a survey of our exisiting fields to determine what is possible within our existing space and facilites.  Once the survey has been completed, we will engage with planners to see what may be possible.  Further details will be available, once proposals have been agreed.

Expansion of the Sixth Form Centre for co-educational development.

The Sixth Form is now open to girls, a step that has proved popular in Bristol.

The space available exclusively to Sixth Formers has been enlarged to create a vibrant second social space, in addition to the existing common room and servery area on the first floor.  The current IT suite has also been relocated and updated to include IT ‘pods’, with a mixture of fixed computer terminals and a number of access points for students to connect their own devices.

In addition, areas of Upper Berkeley Place were remodelled to house new changing and showering facilities for Sixth Formers.  This expansion took place during summer 2017, ready for the first cohort of girls arriving in September 2017.

Brandon Hill Building now open.

Work has been completed on a new state-of-the-art building at QEH, designed to further develop our facilities in Science and Art as well as allowing for increased space in the Music Department.

Science is an important part of the curriculum, with nearly 70% of our A-level students studying a Science subject. We are proud of our tradition of sending students to study these subjects at top universities at a time when, nationally, these subjects are proving less popular in secondary schools. The development enhances our Science provision by providing three high tech Life Science laboratories and students are now enjoying their lessons in these superb new facilities.

Art is an expanding area of the curriculum and this project sees the creation of a new Ceramic Studio, with plenty of light and space to encourage creativity in our students. Over a third of our students now learn a musical instrument and this number increases year on year. We will now be able to expand our ensemble rehearsal space and create more practice rooms.

This development will offer significant benefits to all our pupils, enabling us to enhance our teaching spaces to meet the needs of an ever-changing curriculum and continue to deliver an outstanding education.

We worked on our proposals for over two years in order to provide an appropriate balance between the needs of the school and the requirements of the wider community. Planning permission was granted in September 2014 and work began the following summer. This exciting new addition to our facilities was recently officially opened by Monty Halls, noted marine biologist, broadcaster and explorer.
