Learning Enhancement

Gifts and talents require support for extension beyond the curriculum

Pupils who have  support needs either because they have gifts and talents which require support for extension beyond the curriculum 0R those who have a diagnosed learning problem such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, or need help with handwriting and spelling, are referred to the Learning Enhancement Centre.

Provision

  • Identification/testing
  • Extension opportunities:
          - Future Problem Solving  www.fpspi.org/
          - National & International learning opportunities
          - UK Young Gifted & Talented programme
          - Advice for parents of gifted pupils
  • Drop-in facility for all pupils 4 sessions weekly (lunch or after school)
  • Specific lunchtime support sessions for identified pupils:
         - Workshops in areas such as: ‘Writing Organisation’, ‘Reading Between the Lines’ and Maths topics
         - Sixth form volunteers assist a member of staff deliver this service
         - Staff are regularly given updates of those attending
  • Testing for Access Arrangements for exams
  • Advice for parents of  pupils with learning difficulties.
