Year 6Summer Term, 2010 We are looking forward to a busy Summer Term, the final term at QEH Juniors for Year 6. Before half term, the boys will be working towards and taking end of year assessments in both Maths and English. Our Topic for the term is France and Paris, which I'm sure the boys will enjoy! Much of the Art, Geography, History, DT and ICT work we do this term will be focused around the topic. In particular, we plan to enjoy some French cuisine, build some models of the Eiffel Tower and produce a range of art work influenced by the rich artistic history of France. After half term, Year 6 will be working hard to prepare their end of year production of The Wind in the Willows. The play will be performed on Wednesday and Thursday, the 7th and 8th of July, at 7.00pm in the QEH Theatre. Details of how to get tickets will be sent out after half term. As in previous years, the play will be cast purely with Year 6 boys and the rest of the school will support any singing and dancing that might be required! The boys will audition for the play and be given their parts before half term. We are also looking forward to our Leavers' Assembly which will take place on the final morning of term, Friday 9th July, again in the QEH Theatre. We hope you will all be able to join your sons in saying a fond farewell to QEH Juniors. Details of this will be sent out nearer the time. Science lessons (taught by Mrs. Taylor) will initially focus on life cycles. To complete the year, the boys will undertake a range of fun and practical science investigations. These will include a trip to @Bristol on 15th June for a forensic science day! PE notice The boys will have cricket lessons this term on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Please make sure that your son brings a towel in order to shower after every lesson. From Wednesday, 12th May, those boys not selected for the U11 cricket A team will have the option to do tennis at Kings Tennis Club on Wednesday afternoons. Swimming lessons will take place on Thursday this term at the University Pool. As well as their swimming kit, please make sure your son has a coat with them on Thursdays for the short walk to the pool. After half term, the boys will have gym on Tuesday mornings and will be allowed to wear their gym kit and tracksuit to school on that day. Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss any aspect the term ahead. Email: rhall@qehbristol.co.uk Kind regards, Mr Hall Year 6 Teacher
