Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

Apply now for entry for September 2010 or beyond.

Assessments for Year 3 or the new Year 5, wishing to enter in September 2010 or beyond, are by appointment.

Candidates need to complete an application form first in order to take part in the assessment procedure for entry at 7+ or 9+ (or other Years if places become available).

Assessments at 7+ and 9+ will consist of:

  • A Reading Test
  • Completing a short piece of Creative Writing
  • Sitting a short Numeracy Test
  • Undertaking a Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning Assessment.

Each boy will also be individually interviewed by the Headmaster, Mr Martin Morris, and the Year heads.

Boys taking Assessments can expect to be at the school for a whole morning from 9:30am to 12:00noon. They are welcome to stay for lunch and be collected at 12:30pm.

All assessment materials will be provided. Age appropriate practice tests in Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning can be purchased from large booksellers. We recommend those published by Letts or Nelson Thornes. There are many general practice tests available for Junior aged children (Key Stage 2). We will also provide sample questions for each specific Year group.

Offers of places will be posted late by February/early March.

Year 4 to 6 applications will be considered on an individual basis - currently a waiting list is in operation.

Applications

Completed application forms should be returned together with a cheque for £25 (made payable to QEH), as early as possible to: Mrs Liz Bamber (Admissions Registrar), QEH Junior School, 9 Upper Berkeley Place, Clifton, Bristol BS8 1JX. Telephone 0117 930 3068.
