Clubs & Activities

QEH Junior School offers a variety of lunchtime and after-school clubs. So if you're interested in sport, the arts or music, there should be something for everyone!

Five-a-side football club
Chess: Open to all Year groups, and for beginners as well as more experienced players. An active Chess Ladder provides an element of competition, as does the Inter-House Chess Tournament held annually. In future terms, it is hoped to arrange chess fixtures with other local schools. Years 5 and 6 meet on Tuesday lunchtime and Years 3 and 4 meet on Wednesday lunchtime.

The Big Questions: A lunchtime club is run on Thursdays by a youth worker from Christ Church, Clifton. The club challenges the boys to think through the burning questions that confront us, with particular emphasis placed on biblical answers to some of these: “Why is there suffering in the world?”; “What is evil?” and other issues.

Cookery: Because of the popularity of the club and the limited facilities, the numbers must be restricted. This means that for any one group there is a limited number of sessions. This year, Mr Morris will be teaching the boys some of his more 'revolting recipes'! The club takes place in the Junior School kitchen, after school on Wednesdays.

Choir: Open to all boys who enjoy singing and performing. The choir meets every Monday lunchtime and regularly performs in assemblies and at concerts.

Orchestra: Boys are invited to join the orchestra if they play an orchestral instrument to a good level. The music played is varied and fun with a focus on performing in assemblies and at concerts. The orchestra rehearses after school on Thursdays.

Lego: Years 3 and 4 are able to spend Thursday lunchtimes using Lego to make structures of their choice. This encourages imaginative and interactive play as the boys work together and share ideas.

Five-a-side Football: This takes place on Tuesday lunchtime for Years 3 and 4 and after school on a Monday for Years 5 and 6. Keep your fitness levels up and enjoy the chance to run around in the gym, whatever the weather outside!

Judo: All boys are welcome to join Judo, whatever their ability. The club takes place in the Senior School gym, after school on Fridays. Please note that there is a charge to attend this club.

Drama: Any aspiring actors should join our Drama Club and work towards a starring role in our annual production. Rehearsals take place on Mondays after school.

Airfix Modelling: Open to boys in Years 5 and 6, the club offers an opportunity to develop intricate model-making skills and takes place with Mr Hall after school on Tuesdays.

Conservation Club: Get involved in various projects aimed at improving the back garden area of the Junior School. Activities include growing our own vegetables and making bird boxes and feeders.

French Club: A chance for boys from Years 3 and 4 to further develop their French language skills. Meets after school on Tuesdays.

Debating Club: Sharpen your debating skills as the hot topics of the day are hammered out on Friday lunchtimes. The club conducts its debates under the strict framework of a formal debating society.

Photography Club: Mr Morris passes on his expertise with a digital camera after school on a Friday.
