Boys Biking It

Joe (12), John (10) & George (8) Hutton were dragged by their cycle-mad father, David, on a 170 mile cycle trip across England during half term.

Sustrans (based in Bristol) has just opened a new route going coast to coast from Morecombe to Bridlington called the Way of the Roses. It took 4 1/2 days  and the boys covered 170 miles of beautiful Dales, moorland, riverscapes and farmland. They managed between 35 and 40 miles a day helped along with vast amounts of chocolate and freakishly mild weather.

The route brilliantly avoids busy roads and as many hills as possible and sticks to farm tracks and quiet back roads.

The only disasters were: father, David, forgetting the tool kit (but then they didn't get any flat tyres) and George falling off his bike and gashing his knee but he didn't seem too bothered.
