Jubilee Day

Spiffing Jubilee Lunch

All QEH boys were cordially invited to the Jubilee Lunch on Friday 1 June in the presence of the Royal Family. See Celebratory Programme for menu!

The Headmaster surrounded by the Royal Family including our Patron Queen Elizabeth II

Since QEH has a Royal Charter from Queen Elizabeth 1 dating back to 1586, and the current monarch continues in the role as Patron of the school, the day began with a presentation ceremony to the Senior School at Assembly of specially minted medallions to celebrate our Royal Heritage (generously funded by The Friends of QEH).

Just as in 1953, there was a variety of celebratory activities for Years 7-9 during the day.

In the morning Years 7-8 enjoyed commemorative activities with staff with opportunities to be photographed with the Royal entourage at the unrivalled cost of £1. Proceeds will go towards supporting the Bristol Children's Hospital project - see Trevor Tortoise's trip to the USA.

In the afternoon Year 7 to 9 boys went into the Yard to create a giant human 'ER 60' which was photographed (see above left) . It will be printed as a card and sent as a Jubilee present to the Queen.

A Jubilee quiz followed and then boys watched selected parts of the BBC Diamond Queen series.

The idea of the Jubilee day was to combine a memorable celebration of the event with some fun, and give boys a greater awareness of the life of the Queen and the Royal Family and the role that they play.

These staff ‘volunteered’ for the following roles:

Mr Bateson - Charles

Mr Ryan - The Duke

Ms Cawte - Kate

Mr Harris - William

Mrs Hunter - Camilla

Mr Hawkes - Harry

...and of course the Royal Mrs Kenchington (complete with corgis) as ...  guess who?
