QEH Sports Ground

PE & Sport

Although QEH can field twenty rugby teams on a Saturday match day, there is plenty of scope for involvement in many sports, within or outside curriculum time.

"We want every boy to explore and develop his talents to the full."

In Year 7, in addition to a PE period, a games afternoon and regular fixtures, there's a double period of 'activities' in which football, hockey, swimming, cricket skills, tennis, golf and ice skating take their place in an options scheme which also includes chess and performing arts.

Rugby, cricket and, from Year 9, football, are our main team sports, each with at least two teams per age group. In all three sports QEH enjoys competitive success regionally and nationally. Those with expertise elsewhere can choose from a wide variety of sports whether it be playing squash on site or participating at other specialist locations where climbing, athletics, sailing, tennis, hiking and mountain-biking join the choices.

Hockey club takes place on a voluntary basis with fixtures run by age group, but all are welcome to the practices whether beginner or County player and House competitions provide an opportunity for all to take part in swimming, basketball, cross-country or racquet sports. Athleics is featured at our annual summer Sports Day, a highlight of the year to which the whole school community is invited.

At A-level a course in PE & Sport is offered and students make use of video facilities to analyse movement from a bowling action to a long jump.
