Ten Tors 2008

Outdoors

Outdoor pursuits are extremely popular with QEH boys, and are led by staff with specialised expertise in this field.

The Ten Tors Competition is always popular, with several teams provided from QEH

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The school participates in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Boys can start the Award during Year 10. To successfully complete the Award, boys have to undertake some community service, complete an expedition, develop a particular skill and participate in a physical recreation.

Expeditions take place on Exmoor, Dartmoor and the Brecon Beacons during the late Spring and Summer terms.

Ten Tors

The Ten Tors Competition is an annual event that takes place on Dartmoor during mid-May. Teams of six are required to complete a journey of 35 (Bronze), 45 (Silver) or 55 (Gold) miles, carrying full kit, including overnight camping equipment during a 34-hour period. This is a very demanding challenge and training takes place over several weekends, starting in February.

QEH has entered teams for this event, with considerable success, for several years.
